Shining Through

As I was walking back to the house one day after having taken the picture above, I looked down and saw this tiny flower – a weed – growing in the grassy path I was on:

In that expanse of pasture was this small, yellow flower, yet it was that ocean of green that gave it the ability to shine and be seen so easily. A reminder that it’s often when we’re lost in an ocean of humanity or indifference that the intrinsic beauty of our individuality shines through. Don’t be humble like a wallflower; be daring like a weed.

  1. The yellow caught your eye, but look at all the other things in that second picture – the variety, the shades of color, the angles, some roundness, some seeds(?). Little elves could get lost in there!

    1. Sharon – thank you for that detailed observation. If we were to count the parade of squirrels, groundhogs, rabbits, foxes, deer, and the endless assortment of birds that stop by daily, I would say that the farm abounds in elves! I’ll be sure to give them your best! ??

  2. Awwww…the small flower is certainly a beautiful reflection on the strength of individuality! There is something unapologetic and bold about her. A small lesson for us all, that we can thrive regardless of expectation and should not be afraid to stand out. Being different is a form of true beauty. Thank you Frank for sharing this lovely observation.

    1. Maria – thanks for the thoughtful note. It’s so very true that being different is a form of true beauty. Like an old saying goes, “Even a sour note is still music.” Thank you so much for sharing.
